Community Roots Gardens
Reimagining Front Yards, Growing Healthier Communities
Community Roots Gardens (CRG) transform everyday front yards into spaces that nourish people, pollinators, and connection. Through Kind Hearts Bloom’s Community Roots program, neighbors partner with us to replace traditional lawns with native plants, food gardens, or a thoughtful mix of both. Together we create visible, welcoming gardens that invite curiosity, conversation, and care.
What is Community Roots Gardens?
How Does CRG Work?
Participants join a two-year partnership that includes garden design support, plants, education, and community workdays. Some gardens are fully installed with volunteer support, while others receive DIY garden kits paired with guidance and resources. Every participant contributes by showing up for at least one fellow garden installation, helping grow a network of neighbors learning and working together.
Why is CRG Important?
Community Roots Gardens are about more than plants. They improve neighborhood beauty, support local ecosystems, increase access to food and green space, and strengthen social bonds block by block. By growing in front yards, these gardens help reimagine what our neighborhoods can be when we care for them together.
